Monday Madness 7-31-06

1. Do you have a photo blog? If so, feel free to share the link with us!
I have occasional pictures in my blog. Does that count? I also have a thingie from Flickr, that flashes thumbnails of our pics. Not really, though. Just the one blog is all I have.
2. How many pets do you own, and what are their names? If none, have you had a favorite pet in the past?
I have an Australian cattle dog named Jasmine, who we adopted from the shelter about 2 years ago. My favorite childhood pet, was a buff cocker spaniel named Corky.
3. How many times a week does the carpet in your house get vacuumed? No carpet? How many times a MONTH do your floors get mopped?
We try to get it done about once a week. Doesn't always work, though.
4. Which room in your house do you spend the most time in?
My bedroom for sleeping and my basement where my computer is.
5. Have you read any good books lately?
It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis was the last book I had to read for my book discussion group. It was about president turning into a dictator. I only got about halfway, before my book discussion last Friday. It was kind of interesting, but with many words per page, I never seemed to get very far, when I did sit down to read.
6. What is your biggest source of news? (Newspaper? Television? Radio? Other?)
Probably television and the internet

Campus Visit

We took Sarah for a Preview Day, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. That's where I went to college, too! LOL! We got an overview of not being a slacker during your senior year and not being a slacker if you want to be a nurse, so you make it into the School of Nursing, after 2 years. We got a tour of the campus, but they didn't have time to go past any of the science buildings, where I spent most of my time! Bummer. We took a peek at a suite, in the dorms. Holy cow, I can't believe I lived in that small space, for 2 years! LOL!

I sure remember the one guy, who threw beer on his friend, and then ran. So, the kid, on the elevator, opened the door, and threw his beer on ME, thinking his friend was still there. I was all ready to go to work, at the IHOP and I only had one uniform. I had to go to work in my beer-soaked uniform. I was sooo happy. Not. Standing there by the bank of three elevators, in the dorms, brought that memory right back. Stupid immature and drunk college kids!

We still have to make an appointment to go see Oshkosh and then Sarah can think about applying to the different state schools!

Then we came home and went swimming at the quarry. It looked like we were going to get a storm, but we never did. After showers, we went to Wendy's for just burgers and then Coldstone Creamery for ice cream.

On top of all this, I still had a few errands to run, that I never had time to do, all day. Jasmine's retractable leash broke yesterday, so we wanted a new one and we needed toilet paper. I couldn't put it off. Now, I'm so tired and ready for bed.

Applebee's Fiasco

Bleah. There is no excuse for it. We went to Applebee's tonight and waited 70 minutes, for our food! Unbelievable. The waiter forgot to submit our order, to the kitchen. So, they ended up covering the cost of our food, but when they realized that our food WASN'T being cooked, couldn't they have told us, that there was a delay, and asked if we wanted to order an appetizer. At an early enough point, in the 70-minute wait, I wouldn't have minded paying for an appetizer. We didn't order an appetizer, because we felt surely our food would be coming, any minute now! Tables around us, were getting their food, without any problems. It was just us and one other table, who had to wait an hour for food. So, no Applebee's for us, for a while. That is just too long a wait for food and incompetent waitstaff.

In all my years as a waitress in college, I don't think I EVER forgot to turn in a ticket, to the kitchen!

Brat-eating Contest

No, they won't be eating any naughty children, rather spicy German sausages. It's an annual event at Bratwurst Days in August. What will be different this year, is that ESPN has deemed it important enough to cover! Sheesh. Just what we want Sheboygan on the map for, seeing how many brats people can eat in 10 minutes!

We're not all brat-eating fiends! Yes, we like our brats, but not to the tune of 35 sausages in 10 minutes! Honestly. I'm so embarrassed!

On a more positive note, we are finally going to get Emily a new bike. The one she has is too small and not working very well anymore. Besides, we got it from Sears and it's so heavy! She will be happy getting a new bike. With a nicer bike, maybe she and Sarah will ride their bikes more!

Hot Sunday

Wow, we had a hot one today! It got up to 90 on our house thermometer. Poor Sarah was washing cars at church, for a fundraiser, for their mission trip! They made $275, too! Isn't that amazing? I was glad I could be home, in my air conditioned house! Then a front went through. It got quite windy and the temp dropped 20 degrees in a very short time! Now, it's in the 50's outside. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning for a while, but we never got anything more than rain and not that much rain, either.

Had a quiet day at home, except for going to church this morning. After a whirlwind month of travel, summer camps and a wedding, I'm glad to just stay home!

Monday Madness 7-9-06

Good Monday to everyone! Now, for this week's questions.... and thanks for playing!

1. What is your favorite framed object in your house?
Probably the 1-year old pictures of my kids
2. If you had a choice of being a carnivore or a herbivore, which one would you be, and why?
Carnivore. I would miss my meat, if I became a vegetarian.
3. Who do you think should have won the FIFA World Cup? Or, don't you care?
Don't really care. Not much of a soccer fan.
4. What's your feelings on stormy weather?
Most of the time it's cool, as long as it's not a bad storm.
5. Do you believe in "time out" chairs?
I have sent my kids to their room, on occasion. I never had a "naughty" chair, or a "naughty step" like on the nanny shows! LOL!
6. Have you ever bought or sold anything on Ebay?
We have sold a lot of old stuff, from my FIL's house, after he died. I have sold some scrub tops and some nursing shoes. DH has bought and sold camera equipment. He has bought computer parts. We got our laptop fixed, though some repair site that he found on Ebay. They did a great job, too!

Monday Madness 7-3-06

Thanks to Tricia for the first three questions below!

1. Have you ever traveled outside of your own country?
Yes!!! I got to go to Mexico, for 2 weeks, with my Girl Scout troop, at the age of 15 AND I got to go to Ontario, when we went to visit Niagara Falls in 2005!
2. If you could be any animal, which animal would you be, and why?
A dog, since they seem to have a pretty charmed life! At least my dog does! LOL! I think it would be the unconditional love, too!
3. Do you read manga?I didn't even know what it was! LOL! I had to go look at the link. My 14yo knew it was anime, though!
4. Are you doing anything special to celebrate Independence Day?
Well, we started by going to the store to get drinks and treats for the parade. We will meet my friend and her family to watch the parade in the morning. Then meet again later in the day, to eat supper and wait for the fireworks to start.
5. How many memes do you participate in regularly?
Just this one!
6. How much is a gallon of gasoline where you live? Have you cut down on your driving since the prices have gone up?
Gas is about $2.99/gallon. Although, the last time I filled my car up with gas, I found a gas station that was $2.92! It hasn't really curtailed my driving, since I still have the same amount of errands to run. We do have a VW Passat TDI, though, which gets in the 40s/gallon of diesel fuel, usually, so if we have a longer trip, we usually take that car. My 1998 Taurus only gets about 26 mpg! We still took our road-trip out to South Dakota!
