Band trip

So, last week, Emily was in Florida. They left for Orlando around 6am on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 to make the 26-hour bus trip. She had fun taking pictures, all the way down there, and at Disney. They were supposed to get to Orlando around 9am Thursday morning and get to have the whole day at the Magic Kingdom. Emily even rode Space Mountain twice! On Friday, they performed a concert. Since it was the first concert of the season, all the bigwigs were there. I hope they sounded good. Then the rest of the day, they were at Magic Kingdom. On Saturday, they went to Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM). She had fun there, too, and almost rode Tower of Terror, but chickened out at the last minute. Then at 7:30pm, they left for the LONG bus ride home. I was in a panic all day Sunday, because there was bad weather in Missouri and Illinois and we had bad weather here, too, with some snow and wind. Fortunately, they arrived home safe and sound around 8:30pm central time. What she remembers most about Disney, was how nice all the employees were. She said they all were so happy.

This week has been hard, because Emily has been trying to get caught up with stuff she missed and panicking when she checks Edline and sees less than “A’s”. LOL! Then going to bed frustrated because it all seemed so hopeless. So, she is down to just making up a test, that she will get done on Monday, so she is much more relaxed now.

Also, the solo and ensemble music festival is tomorrow. She is doing a flute solo, flute duet, and flute choir. I think she will be very happy when that’s all done, too.

Last night, she used my Tranquil Mint body wash and I heated up a hot pack for her neck with lavender and oatmeal in it, to help her relax. She was so wound up last night. I just felt so bad.

 Excuse my dust

My daughter, Sarah, made a new banner for me and I’m changing all the colors. As usual, it’s taking way longer than it needs to and things will look wonky for just a bit. Sleep and work interfere with this, you know! LOL! Patience is appreciated.

8-9 inches of snow today, when they originally predicted about 3-5. Ha! Winter still has a hold on us. Thankfully spring is on the way.

Emily found her voice, in a 4H play today. I would have never guessed that my 16yo daughter’s voice could fill up a high school auditorium. Wow!

 Mid-February KAL

This one is fun. It’s like a ballband, but with round windows, instead of rectangular bricks. For the pattern, tan is color A and the Fiesta ombre is color B. A is the color in the foreground and Color B is the background. I’m having fun knitting it!

Two nights ago, the weathermen had us with a winter storm watch, for 5-8 inches of snow. Then yesterday, it was only a winter storm advisory, for 3-5 inches of snow. Overnight, we only had about 1/4-inch of snow. It barely covered the driveway and Gary’s car, which has to stay outside, was barely covered with anything. I’m listening to the radio at 7:00am, and WTMJ has a reporter in downtown Sheboygan, reporting about who it’s drizzling a little and the visibility is low. Uhhh, no. I had just been out with the dog and didn’t notice any drizzling or decreased visibility. I can’t believe they sent a reporter up here, all the way from Milwaukee for a measly 1/4-inch of snow! Must be a slow news day. The weathermen get to excited about their models, when maybe they should just look out the window.

 January KALs

The beginning of the month dishcloth, was a garter stitch ice skate designed by Emily Jagos of Designs by Emily and the mid-month one was a sample of garter stitch, stockinette stitch, seed stitch and some lacy diamonds, designed by Debbie Tilley, for her 3yo daughter. Eventually she wants to teach her daughter how to knit, too. The mid-month design was entitled, “Cheyenna,” after the designer’s daughter.

The ballband was started while sitting at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI, while watching the Brewers play the Colorado Rockies. I had a blast, even though the Brewers lost that night. We were there as a part of Stitch n’ Pitch.

Brrrr, it’s cold down by my computer

I was freezing down here in the basement, by my computer earlier today. I’m freezing down here now. I finally looked up the thermometer and it’s 54 degrees down here. No wonder I can’t get warm, despite my space heater and the furnace vent above my head, being open. My hands are so cold. I’m not sure why it’s so cold down here today, since we got up into the 20’s today, so it’s not THAT cold outside. When is spring coming?

Since we did have a warmer day today, meaning one where you don’t mind being outside so much, I thought I’d better get a move on picking up after the dog. January was so cold and snowy, that I never really wanted to be out there long enough to pick up the messes. So, today, it got done: 2 grocery bags full, because poop and snow take up a lot of room. The flat area along the driveway looks so much better now. It was hard work, since I kept having to get my shovel into the frozen snow, so I could get the messes picked up.

Back in December, when it started snowing, I never got all the previous “muffins” picked up, so they’ll be waiting as the snow melts. Ugh. Wish I could get to them now, but the snow’s way too deep.

Poor Jasmine. Gary had to snowblow some paths for her, to use for her bathroom, since the snow is much deeper than her 18 inches. I sure can’t wait until that snow starts melting. I barely remember what my yard looks like, without snow.

 Movie List - 60

SUPPOSEDLY if you’ve seen over 85 of these films, you have no life. (I can totally find other ways of not having a life. Trust me.)

There are 239 films on this list. Copy this list, go to your own blog, paste this. Then, put x’s next to the films you’ve seen, add them up, change the header adding your number, and click post at the bottom. Have fun.

I enjoyed watching the Inauguration on Tuesday. I still need to watch my dvr’ed footage, that I haven’t watched yet. After his speech, I needed to FLY to work, so I didn’t watch anymore after that. I needed a kleenex while watching him get sworn in. I just wish that Justice Roberts had had an index card, or something, so it wouldn’t have gotten messed up. I thought that Michelle and the girls all looked so nice. In other pictures I’ve seen of the Inauguration, I just love watching Sasha smile and it turns out that Malia is a photo nut! Malia would get along great with Sarah, who also takes pictures of everything, too.

 Inauguration Day!

Wow, can you believe that crowd??? There are so many people. It makes me glad to be watching from home, where it’s warm and comfy. I must say that Keith Olbermann on MSNBC is looking quite dashing this morning. Can’t wait until the swearing in!

 Playing Catchup Finally!

Holy cow! I got so busy at work and just had no time for extras. I was barely even getting email read, let along posting in my blog. Someone quit, then someone was hired, but then she had to be trained. Then people were off, in December. I barely had time to breathe! So, the blog waited and waited and waited. Now I have 14 pictures to post of finished objects, snow from December 19th, and big waves from January 3rd!

My family was very happy that Obama won the election and that it was a done deal even before we went to bed on November 4th. We look forward to the Inauguration now!

We had a great Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas, although I was so busy I barely got to enjoy it. Had fun at Christmas celebrations on both sides of the family. My family did a White Elephant gift exchange. Parameters were that the gift had to weigh about a pound and cost $10 or less. I ended up with some Charmin’ Ultra Plush toilet paper and while my sister thought toilet paper would be the ultimate gag gift (and we did laugh about it!), my family was in desperate need of toilet paper, at that precise moment, so we were glad to get it! LOL! Gary got a bundle of bungie cords, Sarah got some fancy hot chocolate mix, and Emily I can’t remember anymore. Gary almost got candy, but that was stolen away by a candy-hungry nephew! Bungie cords are more useful for him, anyway.

I didn’t get to open Gary’s present, until we were together with Gary’s family. He had it shipped to their house and then had my SIL wrap it in 3 different boxes, each one completely wrapped with ribbons and bows, too. It turned out to be an 8G iPod Nano in turquoise blue! So, I’ve been busy uploading music and getting that all set up to my specifications! Also, we had to delete a ton of music from my iTunes library that even Sarah wouldn’t be listening to anymore.

Emily earned all but $20 towards a Nintendo DS. She got Polar White and is enjoying it very much. Sarah was doing some video work for my nephew Ryan and got paid nicely for that, so she went out and bought a Wii. We’ve all been having fun with that. I bowl better on the Wii, than I do in real life! The cow racing game on Wii Play is hysterical. It’s also hard to play the game, when everyone is laughing really hard.

I’m way behind on posting pictures of finished knitting projects, but I was finding time to get them photographed.

 Remember to Vote Today!

I voted for Obama! Remember to vote today!!! As if anyone could forget! Hubby, 19yo daughter Sarah, and I all voted about 3 weeks ago. Hubby and I decided we didn’t want to have to wait in line and Sarah was concerned because her Tuesday class schedule is busy and she would have had to stand in two lines to register and vote, since she’s not in the same dorm as she was last spring, during the primary. I can’t wait to start watching the results this evening! It’s going to be a LONG day! It seems weird to not be voting today, though. Emily wishes she could vote for Obama, too. She will get to vote in 2012.

I’m looking forward to going to Z-spot this morning and getting a chai latte for 50 cents less, since we will be sporting our “I Voted” stickers. DH will probably take advantage of the free cup of coffee at Starbucks. I don’t like plain coffee, so the free coffee doesn’t do me much good. Go Obama!

Emily and I carved pumpkins tonight

We are busy tomorrow evening and were too busy last weekend, too. Tonight was the only night we could do it. Emily carved the little pumpkin, in her botany class, so they could learn the parts of the pumpkin. The rind is called the exoderm. The edible part of the pumpkin is the endoderm, and the divisions inside, where the goop is and the seeds, is called the carpals. I took a picture of my pumpkin, right after I cut the top off, so you could see the carpals.

She designed a horse picture, for her bigger pumpkin and realized that you have to have positive areas and negative areas, to make the design show up properly. Mine is just a face, because I have no time or patience for templates. I’m lucky I have a carved pumpkin.

Emily and Dawn's Pumpkins - 08

I’m behind on posting dishcloths. I hope to catch up this weekend. I know I have to post both Octobers for sure!
